Prayer 101

What is prayer? Prayer is communicating to God. When praying, the prayer itself can be voiced verbally or silently. Prayer itself can also take place through worship. Ultimately, prayer is the best way to communicate your needs and desires to God.

Why is prayer so important? Prayer is important because it creates a dialogue between you and God. It’s the most intimate way to have a conversation with God to tell him how you feel (and a great time to hear from God).

What does prayer look like for someone just getting started? Start with something simple like “Lord, I need peace.” From there, you can begin to talk to God when you feel most comfortable expounding upon a simple prayer. You can also tell God your fears, worries, doubts, concerts, desires, etc. He listens to everything you have to say. All in all, when you first begin praying, don’t overwhelm yourself. Opening up the bible is also another way to pray. Reflect on what the verses that stick out to you mean to you at that very moment. A beginner

What is the correct way to pray? There is no correct way to pray. Some prefer praying out loud while others prefer praying silently. Talk to God. Pour your heart out to him. This can be done standing, sitting, walking or kneeling. Prayer can also take place via journaling. It’s impossible to pray to God incorrectly. So, if you’re in your car at a stoplight and want to pray to God, do it. Do what feels most comfortable. Whatever you do, continue to keep your focus on him.

What should you say in prayer? There’s no “perfect prayer.” When you’re praying to God, you can pray for a host of things including:

Yourself

Your Family & Friends

Your Job Situation

Guidance

Good Health

Peace

Restoration

What is intercessory prayer? Intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of a person, others, or about a particular issue.
